Source: Unknown Audience Recording.

The Who:

Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Pete Townshend

Track Listing:

01. Heaven And Hell (Cuts In) 03:02

02. I Can't Explain 02:12

03. Summertime Blues 03:43

04. Fortune Teller 02:05

07. Magic Bus 10:00

08. Shakin' All Over 02:45

09. My Generation (Cuts Out) > Announcer 02:47

Total Time: 38:42

Notes:

A fair to good audience recording. This was recorded during their 2nd US tour. The show

finishes with My Generation, which is sadly cut. An announcer is caught on tape talking about

a "brief intermission", as the pieces of guitar and amp are picked up!

There is some tape wear present on this recording and some source cuts too.

The Doors shared the same bill. Pete Townshend is inspired by Jim Morrison to write Sally

Simpson; "The Doors had become meteoric and Jim Morrison's Christ picture is all over f**king

New York".

Magic Bus was released as a single a few days before this gig in the US.

Notes:

Some of these performances have appeared on other releases, most notably

the definitive '69 SBD's' series by 'Professor Stoned'. Lineage investigations

of these tapes leave me a bit skeptical that the live tracks included on

the 'Higher Education' bootleg all originated from the Georgetown concert.

Nonetheless, a nice collection of great sounding live tracks from the Who's

legendary 1969 Fall US tour.

Geetarz Comments: Disc times are 62:51/44:25.

Also features Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin on guitar, and Alphonze Mouzon on drums, during the encore.

“Badge” and “I Shot the Sheriff” from this concert were officially released on the “Crossroads 2: Live in the Seventies” box set. Please note that this audience recording is not complete, to begin with it was missing “Sheriff” and “Can’t Find My Way Home”. To appease the DIME gods and prevent confusion from anyone stupid enough to confuse an officially released soundboard track with a pretty crappy audience recording, D1T3, “Badge” has been removed from this torrent. More information about the missing track(s) can be discussed on the ClaptonBoots group (http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/ClaptonBoots/).

Please note that although I have run across several different lineages of this recording, they have all been missing the same 2 tracks so at this point I think it’s a safe assumption to consider that they were not recorded, or at least the full recording is not to be found in the trading pool. I hope to be proven wrong, but in the meantime this is the best sounding recording of this historic concert that I have encountered.

A fair, almost complete audience recording--more than acceptable for 1966.

A short, but sweet performance from the 'A Quick One' era. Townshend can be heard playing 12-string on a few tunes and they run through the set with almost no pause between numbers. One of the greatest Who bootlegs, truly a gem.

The Who

Fillmore East 1968 + French TV 1966 (bonus) [Sunrise SR-0012]

Excellent Soundboard Recording

Notes: One of the best and most bootlegged Who shows from this era. It documents their transition from a "pop" band into hard rock jamming. Shakin' All Over is a very long jam that showcases PT's lead guitar styles and how well JAE is in tune to Pete's playing. Relax is another worthy psychedelic guitar jam. There are various versions of this show around that claim to be from different dates and slightly different set lists that at times omit Summertime Blues and / or the mini opera (A Quick One) and / or My Generation. Some claim to be from April 5, 1968, some from April 6, 1968 (taken from thewho.net).
