Having finished with Light Up Time I'm moving on to "The Frank Sinatra Show" which aired in 1944 and 1945. This was the first sponsored radio show Sinatra had--originally by Vimms Vitamins and then by Max Factor. At various times it was called "The Frank Sinatra Show" and then "Frank Sinatra in Person" and then "The Frank Sinatra Program."
A few general notes about this program before I get on to posting my first show:
Most of the Axel Stordhal arrangements from the Columbia period (particularly those in the 1944/1945 period) were debuted on this program.
Comedian Bert Wheeler was a frequent guest on the show. Wheeler got his start in silent films and went on to perform on Broadway and in vaudeville acts.
The Vimms Vocalists frequently back Sinatra on this program--those were the Bobby Tucker Singers who had simply been renamed. Sinatra sang with the Bobby Tucker Singers right after he left Tommy Dorsey--because of The American Federation of Musicians strike against record companies his first recording dates with Columbia were a Capella.
One of his biggest songs, "Nancy (with the Laughing Face)" was premiered on The Frank Sinatra Show in April 1944; unfortunately no copy of that broadcast exists. He would first record it in July 1944.
My plan with these is to post all the Sinatra "bits"--either him singing or the comedy sketches he'd have. I'll also post the full show (if I have it--I don't always) so if you'd like you can hear the introduction, commercials, etc. For some broadcasts I have just a few songs--i'll post what I've got.
With that intro let's move on to the first program I have: February 9, 1944. (The show debuted on 1/5/44 so I'm missing the 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, and 2/2 programs--anybody have those?)
1) Falling In Love With Love
2) Comedy sketch with Bert Wheeler
3) No Love, No Nothin'
4) Comedy sketch with W.C. Fields
5) Long Ago And Far Away
6) Comedy sketch with Wheeler and Fields
7) My Heart Stood Still--with Vimms Vocalists
8) Closing Remarks
9) Put Your Dreams Away
Sinatra would record "Falling In Love With Love" for the first time later that year, in July 1944. He would also record it in 1946 and in 1961.
While Sinatra never recorded "No Love, No Nothin'" it got a lot of airtime in early 1944--he sang it on the radio five times during January and February 1944.
"Long Ago And Far Away" was never recorded by Sinatra but he performed it on this show as well as during his famous concert at The Hollywood Bowl in 1945.
"My Heart Stood Still" would be part of the Sinatra repertoire for his entire career, although he only recorded it once in 1963.
Guest starring on this show was the famous comedian W.C. Fields.
Hope you enjoy this and keep your eyes out for future FS Show postings!

PS--there is a copy of "My Shining Hour" that gets attributed to the 1/12/44 FS Show but it appears to actually be from the "Your Hit Parade" broadcast of 1/22/44 which can be found on the V-Discs.
