I honestly don't know much about this recording, since it appears to have come from a Japanese label and they are notoriously vague in their lineage. I would guess that this is from an FM broadcast. The sound is different from that of the TV broadcast I posted yesterday. It represents the crowd better, and they are beautiful to hear, but it isn't as clinical. I think it compliments the DVD well, and if you enjoy this particular concert as much as I do, you'll want to have both in your collection. It's that good.

Sister Hazel

February 18, 2004
Lincoln Theater
Raleigh, NC

This is my first attempt at recording a live show back in the day. I maybe recorded four more shows and then well...life got in the way. I wasn't much of a fan of the band going in, but they put on a geat show and I think I got a decent capture for my first time. Show fades out during last song (Happy) since being a novice I wasn't prepared to change the MD.

1. Thunder Island (Jay Ferguson cover)
2. Thank You
3. We'll Find It
4. Just Remember
5. Your Mistake
6. Your Winter
7. One Love
8. Come Around
9. Strange Cup Of Tea
10. Will Not Follow
11. Life Got In The Way
12. Champagne High
13. All For You
14. Change Your Mind
15. Fortress
16. Thunder Island / Everybody
17. Happy (incomplete/fade out)

Had this on MP3 in significantly worse quality for some time. This is an upgrade (less hiss), includes "All I Wanted" and almost 10 more minutes in the form of the final encore.
This is the best quality for this recording to date. I left it as I had received it, even the split into 2 tracks of 'Musicatto'.

First seeded by 1bgsky on dime in February of 2012 and now reseeded on TTD by 1bgsky on 19 April 2020.

Financial Support:
The Cylinder Preservation and Digitization Project relies on grants and outside funding for its ongoing operations. Infrastructure and project leadership are provided by the UCSB Libraries, but ongoing funds for digitizing, cataloging, and preserving new acquistions as well as acquiring rare cylinders comes from private individuals, foundations, and government agencies.

It costs us approximately $60 to catalog and digitize a cylinder. Adding another 500 cylinders to the archive and putting them online costs approximately $20,000. If you would like to support this work and make a financial contribution to the project, please contact project director David Seubert at 805-893-5444 or at seubert@library.ucsb.edu. Notes:
JEMS master recording. This transfer was originally done and posted in 2008 by Butterking. The same raw transfer files were used here but everything else was redone from scratch(speed correction, downsampling and tracking) for this repost (Sept 2009). Rush were the support act for Rory Gallagher this night. This show captures Rush on their very first tour touring in support of their self titled debut.

Butterking's original notes:

Based on notes I found at DigitalRushExperience.com, this is considered a significant recording in Rush collecting circles as the best audie from the band's first-album tour.

The entry for the show at Digital Rush gives the history of this tape as being found in the back of a closet as a first gen, transferred to VHS hi-fi with some static and drop out problems, then to CD-R from which it has circulated widely.

This then is the first transfer from the master cassette (Scotch normal bias). There's a chunk of Rory Gallagher's encore on the flip side so I assume Rush was opening for him. I haven't had a chance to call "S" to ask him what he recalls about this recording, but we can probably assume it was recorded like nearly every tape we made at the Paramount, from the last row of the main floor next to the curtain sash where we would mount the microphone. Samples provided.

I'd describe myself as a light, slightly closeted Rush fan, but seeing this on shelf at JEMS' northwest "vault," I thought it merited a fresh airing here. I've done nothing but transfer, stitch together the two sides, and add a fade in and out.

After all, somebody else needs to post a Rush show other than GeddyonDime, right? ;) I hope he especially appreciates this.

This show is historical in two ways; first, it was the last show the band played for almost seven years, and the last Judas Priest show with Rob Halford until the 2004 Reunion TOUR. Secondly, it was at this show where Rob had his famous motorcycle accident which knocked him out for the duration of opening number Hell Bent for Leather, making it so far the only time in history that this song was played as an instrumental.

Track listing:

Intro-Hell Bent for Leather
Heading Out to the Highway
The Hellion/Electric Eye
All Guns Blazing
Metal Gods
Some Heads Are Gonna Roll
The Ripper
Night Crawler
A Touch of Evil
Painkiller
The Green Manalishi
Breaking the Law
Living After Midnight
You've Got Another Thing Comin'

Venue and date: CNE Grandstand, Toronto, Canada, 19th August 1991

Audio source and quality: Audience, excellent quality. I've improved the audio even further from the original, although that sounded great already. Minor audio fluctuations here and there but no problems for the most part.

Special features: Due to Rob's accident, Hell Bent for Leather is played instrumentally for so far the only time in history.

Artwork: Self-made front and back covers included.

Formats: Lossless FLAC.

There was a previous version circulated, labeled as Sbd > Cd-r (Breakdown Label, Catalog #Breakdown-83)

That listing was wrong, because it was not SBD. I'm unsure if it's this audience recording.

This is the first time a known gen has surfaced.

The opening acts were The Outlaws and Starcastle.

Believe it or not, there is video that exists from this entire concert.

You can watch some of Boston & The Outlaws footage here. Boston starts @ 3:50 mark.

The rest of this footage needs to get released ASAP !!!!!

Reseeding for the 10th anniversary of this show/the Evolution XX six-stop tour, itself in celebration of Opeth's 20th
(now 30th!) anniversary. I shared this very shortly after returning from the show, and it might have been reseeded by
someone else a while back, I'm not totally sure, but I'm sure I haven't. You might be able to hop on to help seed, but
I used a newer version of Sound Forge to dither/downsample to 16/44, ymmv.

Good show, decent recording, crowd not too chatty, a few interesting comments can be picked up, some clapping later on. One
of Axe's tom mics was crackling until through most of the second set, Frederik kicks his guitar cord out during 'The Drapery
Falls,' but he sorts it out pretty quick. You can read my first-seed younger, wordy notes in a separate text if you really want
to.

Core Sound cardioid mic's > Edirol R-09HR @ 16/44 > Adobe Audition 3 > CDwav > flac

Recorded by jovifanatic (Terri)
Edited by Kathleen

Some explanation is due here. Terri has been using our Core Sound Cardiod mics since last summer. She is still waiting for her Church Audio mics. We had problems in the past with these mics ourselves because the way they are built - they can unscrew inside the mic capsule and short out. My husband repaired them multiple times and wrapped them and they sound great when they are working. Well Terri had the same thing happen to her this night - the right channel was shorting out and causing all sorts of distortions.

Fortunately this didn't happen all through the show - it was mostly during the acoustic set when the signal to noise ratio was so low. All you could hear was scratching.

What I did:

I fixed a couple of places in Audition with the brush tool and the spectral response view (this is really the most awesome tool). During the acoustic set it was so bad that I deleted the right track and replaced it with the left track, which is why it says mono on the list below. I played around with some delay and echo so it didn't sound absolutely dead, dry mono.

You might hear a few more slight scratches or pops but there is nothing major left.

And the second problem is that the show is incomplete. Someone crashed into Terri during the show and the recording shut off. Same thing happened to me during the Prudential night 2 show if any of you remember that. It happens.

Keep in mind that what is missing is nothing that you all haven't heard before.
