A JEMS and D & D Master Recording / Production

D & D Archives Master Series Volume 10

JEMS is proud to be able to partner with and present some of the choice recordings in the D & D archives. Some of these recordings have been around for years but none of the master tapes or safety copies in some cases have ever been digitized until now. Dave and Donn taped many shows in and around the Seattle area in the 70's and also were contemporaries of some of the JEMS members. Volume 10 consists of The Rolling Stones opening night show of their 73 Pacific tour. This is one of Donn's better recordings. This would be the first time The Stones had played Hawaii since 1966. This show features the only performance of Live With Me on this and the subsequent European tour and is also the last time this song would ever be performed with Mick Taylor. All 3 Honolulu shows featured the rarely played for this period songs of It's All Over Now and Dead Flowers. The performance is sharper and looser than the previous U.S. tour shows in 72. This one is a must have for the casual and hardcore Stones fan.

I've seen a few bootlegs over the years
that have had a couple of songs from this show on them,
but to my knowledge, this is the first time
this concert has been presented complete,
and in this quality.
According to Andrew Sandoval's book,
this show was recorded on 4-track tape.

Here is the exact lineage of what you are about to hear:
A Very quick Mixdown was made (with vocals missing on several tracks)
onto a Master Mono Reel. Somehow, this reel of tape was acquired
by a long-time Monkees Historian & Collector,
who made a direct copy of the reel to a cassette
for an aquaintance of mine (who shall remain nameless).
Several years later, that cassette was given to me.
I've recorded the cassette directly my PC as 32-bit wav.
I've done some light noise reduction on the tape,
faded in the beginning, faded out the ending,
converted to 16-bit wav, and encoded to Flac 8.

Long short: 4-track Master--->
Mono Mixdown Master Reel--->

Taper Maurizio (‘Ratpie’) comments:

A picture disc was bootlegged from this very recording (actually a copy of my tape), but the mastering work was awful and the sound quality is a lot worse than the original - also, it has 11 tracks; here we have 17. This is the whole thing, from the venue manager's introduction straight to the encores. Hope you enjoy. All the best from Italy.

Rob-in-Brevard “tweak” in Audacity: it was a coupla years ago, so I cannot recall exactly what I did, but I’m guessing I applied some modest hiss reduction and a slight bit of compression

This is an undated rehearsal for the Glass Spider Tour, and it contains rare versions of 'Shining Star', 'Because You're Young' and 'Scream Like A Baby', all dropped before the premiere show. Lots of talk between the songs and some mistakes now and then. A look at the running order shows that 'China Girl' was intended as an encore instead of a part of the main set. -Original
