Rolling Stone, Milan - Italy

17th of June 1985

I've received this gig many years ago in a tape trade.

It was a show greatly awaited from the fans so

the audience is very noisy and this makes the sound a bit

less audible sometimes, but the overall quality is satisfactory.

I hope you like it and all the best until the next!

"I was flicking through the channels on the TV, on a Sunday in Milwaukee in the rain..." these are the first lines of the

Sugar Mice lyrics by Marillion. And that sunday, and that Milwaukee were the ones the band experienced during the US tour

supporting Rush. The band had already experienced how harsh can Rush fans could be when a band is playing before their

favourite act in 1983, when Marillion landed in the US for a 4-dates stand at Radio City Music Hall. From the first minute

of the first night till (almost) the last minute of the fouth night, Marillion was booed onstage and objects were thrown

to the band. Those gentle Rush fans...

Three years later, with the Mispalced Childhood album on top of UK charts, the band tried again to tour supporting the

canadian trio, with some headlines dates in between. But once more, the audience did not seem to enjoy their material. In

this set you will hear good reactions on the first part, where the most known tracks such as Kayleigh and Lavender were

performed. But the band had the very brave idea to perform the album in its entirety, which did not allow the audience to

have a break from one track to another. The entire album was heavily booed at the beginning of the tour (late february).

By mid-March, the album performance was shortened by two tracks. By the end of the tour, the band decided to insert a couple of

better known tracks from the older catalogue.

In this show you will hear heavy disturbances in the quieter moments such as in Blind Curve with the audience shouting and

whistering.

As you may imagine, that was not a happy period for Marillion, when they thought that with a number one single in UK and in

other european countries, they thought they could break America. That was not going to be the case, yet. The lyrics Sugar Mice

were written in those difficult days...

"Shuffling Your Memories"

Media: 1 CDr

Time: 56:12

Catalog: Duley Digital DD-M871104-A

Source: BBC Transcription Vinyl

Quality: 10/10 (subjective - your mileage may vary)

Date: 1987-11-03 & 1987-11-04

Location: Wembley Arena, London, England

Setlist:

01. DJ Preamble

06. Fugazi

07. Hotel Hobbies

09. That Time of the Night

10. The Last Straw

Review:

The source for this disc was a transfer from an original

BBC transcription vinyl album to cdr. I actually had two

different copies on cds taken from two different copies of

the vinyl. One source had a low level hum from the transfer

(not grounded properly I suspect) and didn't sound quite as

good, I suspect due to differences in the quality of the

stylus used to play the discs the discs. Unfortunately,

the better sounding of the two copies had 2 nasty skips

in Warm Wet Circles. These were nasty skips, with a few

seconds of music missing from each. I used the better

sounding source, and patched in the missing skip sections

from source B. The patch is lined up perfectly, so you may

not even notice it, unless you pick up in the slight change

in sound quality for these few seconds.

As this was sourced from vinyl, and one which had been played

a few times, there were naturally the clicks and pops associated

with a vinyl record. I used a light duty automated scan and

repair for click removal. I then listened to the recording

in headphones, removing any remaining noticable clicks by hand.

I may not have got every click out, but I got any that were

really noticable.

Finally, I crossfaded the end of Side A and the start of

Side B resulting in uninterupted music for the entire disc.

This is an excellent sounding show, and I would rate it as

10/10 without hesitation.

Artwork is included. I've included art for the inner tray,

which works well for double sided printing of the rear, for

placement in a jewel case with a transparent tray.

UPGRADE: this is not metrocubo's FM source (LDB series) or from silvers, but a new FM master recorded by my friend 'thves'. IMHO the sound quality of my post is better except for track 05 which was missing. Therefore I used metrocubo's source which I tried to equalize a bit. What you get here is the complete broadcast.

LINEAGE: RTL broadcast -> unknown FM tuner and cassette recorder Dolby C on
