show notes:

it is my inherent pleasure and joy to bring you this nugget from the vaults.

again, NO idea what 'gen' this is, or what mics were used to record it, or even the deck.

and it's not "perfect", mind you....but take all them 'unknowns' into account when listening to the samples.

I find the late '85 thru '87 period for The Cult borderline fascinating....beginning with the original version of "Electric" (which is how you hear the songs played in late '85-early '86), and the utter metamorphosis from a dreamy, hand-in-warm-water new-wave Brit-pop band into the mean, lean, drinks-gasoline-and-shits-fire version that Rick Rubin molded them into prior to Rubin's influence.

got all that?

good?

oh yes, one final aside...Billy's fans were not really into The Cult, which makes for some mighty fun between-song-banter.

now CRANK this shit, smile on the inside, THANK dandrew and tell me to "fuck off" with some vim, vigor, and vitality.

did I mention this is just a *taster of what is to come* from the Cult?

no bullshit.

stay tuned,

Fair Warning Tour

I decided to try to repair and improve this recording a bit since I was at this show. It appears that there may be more than one source for this show, but this version is sourced from the version first shared by "Nashwlverine." I lowered the levels because the sound was heavily distorted, and I cleaned up, as best as I could, the various and sundry cuts that existed. I'm not thrilled with the final product, but there's only so much that can be done here - there's just not a whole lot of fidelity to this recording. Oh well. It is what it is. Let's call this one for the completists.

LINEAGE: unknown recording equipment > ? gen cassette > FLAC > xAct 2.45 (decode to .WAV) > Audacity 2.2.2 (level reduction, repairs) > xAct 2.45 (encode to FLAC level 8, align sectors, ffp)

Spacebandit notes:
Just a few days ago I got a notice from my friend Martin about this marvellous indoor festival with an even more surprising admission price of 20 Euros. After some discussion we decided to head for it, a two hour drive (at least for me, one more for Martin (thanks!!!)) to arrive at a beautiful location with great catering (at great prices, too!) on the outskirts of Moers central train station. From the seven bands up on the bill I decided to record just a few, concentrating on getting good captures of the main acts. Unfortunately there was a long technical delay inside LAKE CISCO's set due to a power outage and AMPLIFIER played much longer than they were supposed to. So, the set of LONG DISTANCE CALLING, Münster's pride (my homearea's "capitol city") was cut short as curfew was set at 1:00. Nethertheless, this one hour was simply amazing and LDC tore up the crowd of appox. 300+ people into a real maelstrom of sound and vision. Absolutely fantastic. And did I tell you...it was loud??? Well here's the capture of me and my mics, warts and all...Enjoy! SB.

Audio Source: soundboard
Lineage: Silver --> xAct --> WAV --> FLAC 8 --> MWP
Number of Discs: 1
Artwork: included
Total running time: 69m 23s

Notes: Compilation; The cover says: "Absolutely Rare is a collection of ultra-rare and previously unreleased recordings from 1972 to 1975 in EXCELLENT SOUND QUALITY" Wink

Comments taken from bassman's site: "A very nice compilation disc. The majority of the songs are from the Marquee Club, in excellent stereo sound quality! All of the other songs are studio versions, except for MY DEATH. REBEL REBEL and GOLDEN YEARS are so called "dry mixes" made for Top Of The Pops. DODO is a recording with Bowie and Lulu on vocals. The three YOUNG AMERICANS songs are alternative studio takes. As you can see above, lots of different colour variations were released. A nice and interesting disc!"

This was my very first silver BowieBoot I bought. (and I bought only a few afterwards, but not because I did not like this one a lot Wink) For your enjoyment served as an "xAct cd-paranoid"-rip.

Recorded by me.

A Def Leppard tribute band who I last saw back in 2015 and I thought I'd give them another go. Since I last saw them,
they've had a change in band members (all the guitarists) and I must say the previous incarnations of "Steve" and "Sav"
tried to look more like the real thing and also last time they played a few more deeper cuts too. Anyway don't expect
them to sound like the real thing, these are just a fun night out.

This band also do a Whitesnake tribute too, where they spilt the night half Leppard and half Whitesnake, for some reason
despite this being billed as a Leppard night they threw in Here I Go Again in to the encores.

There was a decent croad in attendance, well over 100 people I'd say and the band went down well. As this is essentially a pub
style rock venue theres some talkers, me with a cough and the obligatory annoying whistler nearby.

I've attached a sample in the first post of this thread so please be sure to check it out before downloading.

Please respect my wishes and don't convert to lossy formats.

Vg+ sound after some EQ was done (bass lifted massively, treble lifted a bit).

Other measures:
- some hiss reduction
- sound levels adjusted between left and right channel
- audience noise between tracks reduced
- reverb reduced as much as possible

Other remarks:
- There is some distortion at higher volumes but all in all not too discommoding
- close to the taper (or even the taper himself?) a guy is yelling loudly from time to time, mostly at the start of the songs which was not possible to remove or reduce without changing the flow of the songs. So I left it in.
- There is a cut in the middle of Station To Station (due to tape flip?) which was faded out and in again. This was already in the tape I received and I left it as it was.
