Cheap Trick Still Wants You To Want Them:
By Pat Rooney, Tribune Staff Writer | July 8, 1997
Cheap Trick, Rockford's favorite rockin' sons, closed the Taste of Chicago concert series Sunday evening with a 1 1/2-hour set that showcased tracks from all across the group's roller-coaster career. Cheap Trick is one of few bands who survived late-career doldrums to continue flourishing artistically. This is due partly to a short stint on last summer's Lollapalooza tour and public acclaim from modern rockers such as Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan. But mostly it is due to the incessantly riffing Rick Nielsen and the ageless voice of Robin Zander, who sounds as sharp as he did during the band's late-'70s heyday.
