OK … I reckon that some explanation of why the first two tracks are here is needed … As the assembled throng sipped their drinks and chatted, the band came on stage to tune up and make general preparations. I thought ‘this could be interesting’ and hit ‘record’ … you never know what you’ll get in moments like this. As it turned out, it was just a few fragments of music and then the band left the stage. However, the background sound continued on … so I let the recording continue. It’s not the usual recognisable rock/pop that usually fills these sections between the sound check and the performance … so I let the recording continue for a bit longer. I wondered if it wasn’t a conceptual piece by The Low Anthem that explored the relationship between audience, music, and the physical presence/absence of the band. I eventually convinced myself that I was over thinking this and wasting battery power & disc space … after nine-and-a-half-minutes … and I stopped the recording. No more than 90 seconds later I’d changed my mind and once again thought that this was a recording/performance by The Low Anthem that was largely
being ignored by the rest of the otherwise adoring crowd … so I started recording again. It was nearly another six minutes before The Low Anthem emerged and began to play … but there was no appreciable break that I could hear between the ‘Possible Soundscape’ and the formal beginning of In Eyeland … maybe I captured something that other patrons that night missed and dismissed and maybe I’m a loon that recorded a chunk of background noise … either way, it’s for you to decide … enjoy!
