In what has already been a dark week for those that lean to the left, add another sad note as Leonard Cohen has died today (11/10/16) at age 82. As one of the greatest wordsmiths ever, Cohen openly explored topics of religion, politics, depression, sexuality, and relationships unlike anyone else prior- even Bob Dylan. Cohen had just released his fourteenth album You Want it Darker three weeks ago and it contained themes of mortality and clues that the end was near, not unlike David Bowie’s Blackstar. Cohen was suffering from ill health in recent years but gave the world a more than spectacular world tour from 2008-2013 where shows lasted three hours.
