Kansas was a band that came out with their most classic album while I was in high school. This album along with several other bands albums at the time didn’t make us think that it was going to go down in rock history as a classic rock album, we just knew it was great music. In the end, Leftoverture did go down in history with Carry On My Wayward Son being the definitive song from this band. It was played on the radio all the time back then. It kicked into high gear immediately. It was very unique. Everyone at my high school knew of this band.
Then they followed up 1976’s Leftoverture with the album Point of Know Return in 1977. That had the title track on the radio all the time and a very different song, also on the radio as a single was Dust in the Wind. Back then, I never saw the band live and don’t really remember them coming to any arena around me.
I did see them once in Atlanta in the 2000’s but when they came to the local Fall for Greenville street festival in 2007, I had to go try to film them. They were on a small makeshift stage at the end of a street that was closed off. They played a decent length set and really rocked. Of course, all three of those biggest hits were played. This was probably the biggest band that ever played this festival. In the past and ever since it was just local bands. Well, I guess Kansas was a semi-local band since their present home is Atlanta, GA. But this was the only previously big time signed band to ever play in this festival.
I even ran audio on the WM-D6C with the intent of having an audio I can listen to in my car. The Sony D7 DAT deck I used to have was broken, so I dusted off the Sony WM-D6C and ran separate audio the old school way on cassette tapes! DigitalDan remastered the tapes and with modern technology, Guitard was able to align the analog tapes and synch it to the video as an alternate audio. So, Carry On with Kansas in downtown Greenville! CBG5150 Posted to DIME 2016-10-04.
