02 Let There Be More Light

03 Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun

04 Flaming

05 A Saucerful Of Secrets

Total running time 53 mins 20 secs

A raw, mono transfer of Beechwoods' 4th gen cassette. I recorded in stereo then dropped the weaker channel on each side to create a mono recording. The left channel of side A of this tape is stronger and more dynamic than the right and the reverse is so on side B. There are no cuts in the music on side A. Side B begins with the part of Roger's introduction to A Saucerful Of Secrets when he says "You'll have to feel this one with us..". When adjusting the gain for the right channel of side B, I tried to achieve a reasonable match for the volume of the left channel on side A.

How does this tape compare to the 1st gen copies doing the rounds? The 1st gens all seem to originate from the same cassette to DAT transfer, whereas this 4th gen appears to be from an alternative source which is less degraded. In my view both lineages have their merits. One is not clearly better than the other and the 4th gen is surprisingly good.
