AGNES OBEL
Santa Monica 2020 [no label, 1CD]

KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic. Annenberg Performance Space, Santa Monica, CA; February 20, 2020. Very good FM broadcast. Interview by Chris Douridas.

Agnes Obel’s music has captivated our attention since the release of her debut album in 2010. Her fifth album, Myopia, is a dazzling display of layered vocals with themes of trust and doubt. We’ll hear new tracks and her conversation with KCRW DJ Chris Douridas.

On February 21, 2020, Danish singer, songwriter, and musician Agnes Obel released her fourth studio album, Myopia.

“I wanted to depict that sense of being trapped within a state of mind with very little peripheral vision, where what is left to be seen only gets increasingly intensified,” she said. This intricately crafted album captures that feeling profoundly. The entire album inhabits that desolate place of twilight solitude, and forces its listener into a mode of introspection. It’s a record to experience alone. With the exception of “Drosera”, and its tritone dissonance and eerie flutes that recall the score to a horror film, there’s a comfort to being pulled into Myopia’s contemplative, isolating territory. - Elisa Bray, independent.co.uk
