Grateful Dead 1981 - Back To Back - #1: I saw one of my favorite Dead shows on March 19, 1981 at Madison Square Garden, then didn't see the band gain until April 1983 because I was in school getting my MBA. Ironically, I haven't spent much time on that period in the Dead's history here at So Many Roads either. Well we'l make up a bit for that mission over the next 2 days. Today, we have a soundboard from Pittsburgh from November 29, 1981, 37 years ago today. The Dead were back in the US after a highly successful run in Europe in October, which included the now legendary Oops show in Amsterdam on October 16, 1981. Overall, the band was in fine form in late 1981, with Brent Mydland 2 years into his run as keyboard player and the tunes from 1980s Go To Heaven disc, such as Lost Sailor, Saint Of Circumstance, Alabama Getaway, Althea and Feel Like A Stranger falling into place in the band's set lists. Download this one, then come back tomorrow for part 2 of this Back to Back set.
